Meet Mayra
Mayra Rivera Vazquez is a proven leader, a lifelong advocate for equity, and a proud daughter of Puerto Rican parents who instilled in her the values of hard work, service, and resilience. A longtime resident of the Lowcountry and the spouse of a U.S. Army veteran, Mayra has called South Carolina home for nearly two decades. She has deep roots in our community, having served in leadership roles across civic, educational, and political organizations. She is the first Latina elected to leadership in the South Carolina Democratic Party, where she has helped shape policy, organize state-wide campaigns, and train the next generation of Democratic leaders.

Mayra has worked as a community organizer, nonprofit advisor, and political strategist. She has traveled across South Carolina building coalitions in rural towns and urban centers alike — championing reproductive rights, environmental justice, affordable healthcare, and inclusive public education. She has led grassroots voter registration drives, supported first-time candidates, and stood up for underrepresented voices in every corner of the state.

In 2020, Mayra was appointed Chair of the SCDP Hispanic Caucus, where she launched innovative outreach initiatives to engage Latino voters — one of the fastest-growing voting blocs in the state. Under her leadership, Latino voter participation surged, and bilingual campaign infrastructure was expanded across multiple counties. She has also collaborated with national organizations to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform and increased access to mental health services for underserved communities.

Mayra is not a career politician. She’s a mother, a neighbor, and a fighter who believes in putting people over politics. She’s running for Congress because she believes the Lowcountry deserves a representative who listens, leads with compassion, and fights for bold, transformative change — not just partisan soundbites.

Her campaign is powered by working families, young people, veterans, and everyday South Carolinians who are ready to build a future rooted in justice, opportunity, and dignity for all.

Mayra is not a career politician — she’s one of us.
